Celebrated as one of the world’s greatest modern dance groups, the Limón Dance Company marks its 75th anniversary this year. Founded in 1946, Limón Dance Company is a thriving legacy of José Limón and his mentors Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, whose innovative works revolutionized dance in America. Choreographer and dancer José Limón is credited with creating one of the world’s most important and enduring dance legacies—an art form responsible for the creation, growth and support of modern dance in this country. Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery, and expansive yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work and vision. This performance will include classic Limón choreography as well as new commissions.

FREE EVENT:  Start the Summer Heat International Dance Festival with an afternoon with Limón dancers illustrating and discussing the history of the Limón Dance Company followed by refreshments and conversation with the company.
