Founded in 1946 by José Limón and Doris Humphrey, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American modern dance since its inception. The company continues to honor the legacy of its co-founder and is celebrating its 75th Anniversary with a virtual performance leading up to the 2021 Summer Heat International Dance Festival. The program features Suite Donuts (2020), a contemporary new work by choreographer Chafin Seymour and two of Limón’s masterpieces, The Moor’s Pavane (1949) and There is a Time (1956). The pairing of these works now seems fortuitous, recent events which have raised awareness of social consciousness and racial justice make this group of dances, all the more relevant today.
“— something memorable and also widely needed in this turbulent, uncertain time in the world…. all emotionally resonant indeed.” — Kathryn Boland, Dance Informa
